PHOENIX (March 31st, 2022)- As the Russia/Ukraine situation continues to circulate in the media, opinions of how Biden is handling the situation continue to sour. By now, virtually everyone has heard about what is occurring in Ukraine – According to the latest Arizona Public Opinion Pulse (AZPOP) survey by OH Predictive Insights (OHPI), 98% of Arizona voters have heard at least a little about the situation in Ukraine, while 79% have heard a great deal or moderate amount.

This AZPOP was conducted March 7th, 2022 – March 15th, 2022 and surveyed 753 Arizona registered voters, giving the survey a margin of error of +/- 3.6%.

Confidence in Biden

According to our recent survey, only 38% of voters have a great or moderate amount of confidence that Biden will make the right decisions regarding Ukraine, while almost half of Arizonan voters (49%) have little to no confidence in his ability to make the right decision.

“As seen in our previous release, Biden is struggling to stay above water with Arizona voters, “said Mike Noble OHPI Chief of Research. “He and his administration will need to start taking into account what voters are looking for in order to prevent the Democratic party from potentially taking a hit on election day.”

Is Biden Harsh Enough?

The March AZPOP found that 56% of voters think the Biden Administration’s reaction has not been harsh enough, 36% say it’s been about right and only 8% say it is too harsh. Those who believe it is too harsh tend to be more favorable of Vladimir Putin (32%), Newsmax viewers (19%), voters aged 18-34 (16%), and Republican supporters of Donald Trump over the GOP (16%). And among those who believe Biden’s response has been about right are those who approve of Biden’s dealing with Russia (57%), Democrats (47%), and MSNBC and CNN viewers (43% each).

Yet, over half of Arizona voters believe Biden’s Administration has not been harsh enough. Groups leading this sentiment include those with little to no confidence in Biden’s ability to make the right decisions (74%), Republicans (72%), voters aged 65+ (66%), and FOX News viewers (62%).

“While there is some disparity on whether Biden will make the right decisions or if his reaction has been harsh enough, the actual support for most individual actions the US could take looks nearly the same among all Arizona registered voters as it does among those who feel Biden’s reaction was not harsh enough,” said Noble.

In regard to who voters think would do a better job with the Russia/Ukraine conflict, 39% of voters think Trump would handle the situation better, while 32% say Biden would. Nearly 1 in 5 said neither (18%).

Those who lean towards Biden: Democrats (63%), MSNBC viewers (58%), CNN viewers (51%), and those who think Biden’s actions are about right (50%).

Overall, not many Arizona voters are isolationists – Only 15% say it’s none of the US’s business and we should stop being so involved in other countries’ affairs. Over half of Arizona voters (57%) are worried about another Afghanistan-type situation, and almost one-third of voters (29%) support going to war to curb Russian aggression.
